The Gene - genetics turned into a story

1 min read

Amazing book. It takes an extremely dense and complex topic like genetics and makes it readable, by turning it into a story. 5 stars from me.

The story of the discovery of the gene is really interesting. And by following along how we discovered it, I think I will much more easily remember how it all works. That’s the trick of the book: the history isn’t decoration, it’s the teaching method.

Here’s the part that says the most about how approachable it is. I didn’t even take biology in high school, but I could follow along. And it’s all so amazing what we’ve figured out so far! Of everyone in that history, Mendel is the one who stuck with me.

A must read for anyone who wants to learn about biology and the genome, with some science history mixed in to keep it easy to read. If you’ve been putting off genetics because it sounds like a textbook topic, this is the book that gets you past that.
